Partnership
Our desire is to continue our work in the community and build on the success and momentum of past years. To achieve our makeover goals it has become clear that we need assistance to make these projects a reality.
Below we have outlined how you can partner with The Life Centre Trust so we can do it again in 2010, for another deserving school & community in a fun and practical way.
Community Makeover Objectives
- To “make over” Glenbrae School by making building, painting and landscaping improvements where possible to the school and its grounds on Saturday March 6th 2010 (prep day Saturday February 27th 2010).
- To impact and involve the local community. In addition to making practical improvements to the school, we want to foster a spirit of community and celebrate this day by holding a large event where parents, caregivers, special guests and the local community can come and see what’s happening and take part in some fun activities on the day. It is a tradition that the previous recipients of the makeover (in this case Tamaki Primary) come along and also help out on the day, helping to foster community togetherness.
The Makeover plan
Working with Glenbrae School, we have identified key areas that need urgent attention to bring this school out of its state of disrepair.
Changes and improvements (funds pending) include, but are not limited to:
- Painting of the entire school.
- Seating for children: Removal of old seats in front of classrooms and building new seating areas, with shading and planting/gardens around these.
- Erect Shade Sails to protect the children from the harsh summer sun.
- Drinking fountains: Removal of old, leaking ones and replace with modern ones which are easier to use.
- Repair areas on asphalt and concrete that have been damaged.
- New Sandpit moved to an area where it is easier to use and does not interfere with drainage, add shade cover.
- Upgraded/extended junior playground.
- Playground learning activities:
- Sports and learning activity markings painted on the grounds.
- Edible garden.
- Sundial.
- Paint swimming pool and plant around it to make the area more attractive.
- Large planters at front of school.
- Rotunda on top field.
- New seating area overlooking netball and basketball courts.
- Landscaping of the grounds.
- Tree removal and dead-wooding.
- Repainting of senior playground and rebounding wall.
- General maintenance and repairs.
- Build new school signs for school entrance.
In addition to the practical aspects of the day, we will be running the following activities to bring the community together:
- Family Fun Day, including kids entertainment programme, food vendors, special guests, music, competitions, give away’s etc.
- Lunch for the volunteers.
How can you be involved?
A number of local businesses have already decided to partner with us by contributing, materials and their time to make this day a reality for some very deserving young children and community.
We invite your support in the form of resources and materials (a full list is available at your request) and/or a donation towards the expenses of running the day and feeding the volunteers who will be giving of their Saturday to make this a reality.
You also have the opportunity of sponsoring a specific part of the project from the list above.
Our Communication Plan
In return for your support we would acknowledge you in the following ways:
