Community Makeover 2010

Over the past 3 years LIFE has chosen a low decile school with real maintenance needs, and with the help of local business and hundreds of volunteers we have completed a makeover of that school in just one day!

These makeovers not only give the schools a physical facelift but they also impact the lives of the students, instilling pride in their schools and hope for the future, the makeovers also impact the teachers, parents and surrounding neighborhoods as we show them they are a valued part of the community.

Working on the ‘pay it forward’ principle, last year’s recipient Tamaki Primary has nominated Glenbrae Primary to be the next school to receive a makeover.

Glenbrae is a decile 1 school with approximately 160 students located in Glen Innes. With funding low, it has received very limited maintenance over the years. At Glenbrae, just like with the other schools, we want the result of this makeover to put them 5 - 10 years ahead in terms of their maintenance!

“Our LIFE School Makeover is a blessing of the truest sense,” Principal Corinne Hansell said. “Since its initial stages of development, the project has gathered momentum and become an overwhelmingly big exercise of “giving” from a huge number of people. We are very humbled to think that this large number of people are giving their time to work for us and create an incredible environment that will be enjoyed by our children and ongoing generations as well. The final result will have put us 10 years ahead with our maintenance plans and will enable us to use our funding in other areas to help with our teaching and learning programmes”.
